UUCC Chalice, Volume 1
Volume 1
- SERMON: "Celebrating Evolution" (Special Guest Connie Barlow) - 06/29/2008:
Science writer Connie Barlow, a popular UU speaker, is a leader in the growing movement that celebrates mainstream science as our shared "cosmic creation story." Building upon Carl Sagan's legacy, Connie shares how artful presentations of our evolutionary heritage can breathe new life into UU religious education programs for adults, youth, and children. Connie Barlow and her husband, Rev. Michael Dowd, have presented programs at more than 250 UU churches and fellowships. Their "evolutionary evangelism" is a featured article in the spring 2006 issue of UU World.
- SERMON: “SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVING IS EASY” (Rev. Maureen Thitchener) - 06/22/2008:
I don’t know if in Summertime the living is easy as Gershwin wrote in his now popular
musical, Porgy and Bess. But, it is different. And, perhaps, this year it will be even more so for many people whose normal summer plans may have had to change to keep up with the changes in our economy. But, there is still something about summertime that most of us hold on to. We still continue to find summertime a good time. Let’s do it this summer - Maureen - SERMON: Taming Your Monsters with Monster Spray (Cecilia Waite) - 06/15/2008:
Most of us recall a time when as children we believed that monsters were hiding under our beds and in our closets. As adults, we reminisce about these childhood experiences and often find ourselves laughing at the notion of “things that go bump in the night”. Together lets ask the questions…Do adults have monsters? Where do these monsters hide if not under our beds and in our closets? Is there a Monster Spray for adults? Let us take a journey together “back to the future” of our inner child, and regain coping skills that can help us tame the monsters in our adult lives.
- SERMON: RE Intergenerational Worship Service (Scarlett Miles, RE Director) - 06/08/2008
- SERMON: Native American Stories (Peg Meeker, Ministerial Intern) - 6/01/2008:
Our Principles and Purposes affirm that we draw wisdom from many sources, one of which is the "spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions." Let's put that into practice today by looking into Native American stories and theology. Our own storyteller, Val Doyle, will help create for us the opportunity to draw uponthis wisdom.
